SUMMARY:MAPA Video Journée -Cohabitation
DESCRIPTION:We’ll be presenting works by artists who contributed to the digital projects we curated in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic at the upcoming MAPA Video Journéeorganised by Matthias Pfäller through his platform MAPA. \nMAPA hosts the third video journée under the notion of “cohabitation.” It is the result of our previous journées with the themes of landscape and nature. In the course of thescreenings and discussions afterwards\, we–including the participating artists and our audience–think that those terms fail to express our current condition and the possibilities we have to understand our life and make our future. \nWhile the term nature gives the impression that there is something outside of human activity\, in the theory of the Anthropocene it simultaneously contains its antithesis\, namely that there is nothing left that is natural and untouched by humans. Both extremes lead to a dead end\, as they deny the possibility of interconnectedness of our existence with our known environment as well as the yet unknown\, and thus making it impossible to think our present and future on earth in a meaningful way. The works selected for the third journée break through the nature-culture binary and demonstrate situations of cohabitation. With this notion\, an exchange of different ways of living across cultures and species becomes possible without undermining the integrity of the respective spaces. As such\, this model is anti-hierarchical and focused on expanding our epistemological spectrum. Experiences of indigenous communities\, plants\, animals\, and matter are presented in these works. They show us how different phenomena of contact affect us historically\, culturally\, and ecologically. At the same time\, they leave room for sensations that might still be distant to our immediate perception\, evoking both instances of familiarity and strangeness. Through the medium of video\, the artists achieve a multi-sensory mediation of knowledge and emotions. The majority of the videos were made in collaboration with local communities or family members and are driven by personal narratives. SUMMARY:INCIPIT TERRA
DESCRIPTION:entre—ríos estará presente en este evento organizado por la curadora e investigadora Ana María Lozano (Pontificia Universidad Javeriana\, Bogotá) en octubre. \nEn palabras de la organizadora\, “El encuentro es una invitación a articular\, a pronunciar juntxs desde el arte y desde el diálogo y la conversación con otras disciplinas y formas de conocimiento\, otros modelos de vida que den paso a otra mirada\, relación\, articulación entre los otros y nosotros. Ponemos sobre la mesa\, como inicio de discusión\, la idea de interdependencia radical\, esto es\, la estructuración de la vida en la Tierra desde la conexión necesidad/intercambio/aporte entre seres vivientes con cerebro y vivientes sin cerebro\, entre seres pluricelulares y seres monocelulares; entre seres de agua y seres de tierra. Entendemos que lo que hace posible la vida en la Tierra es el surtir de la convivencialidad\, de la solidaridad\, de la vida buena para todxsmás que el de la competencia o la rivalidad. Creemos con el filósofo catalán Jordi Pigem\, que somos Homo reciprocansmucho más que Homo economicus. Podemos construir sistemas económicos y sociales que se basen en lo mejor y no en lo peor de la naturaleza humana. La oportunidad de pensar distinto la plantea Arturo Escobar como “la necesidad de abandonar toda pretensión de universalidad y de verdad”\, y en cambio\, plantear “una apertura activa a aquellas otras formas de pensar\, de luchar y de existir que van surgiendo\, a veces con claridad y contundencia\, a veces confusas y titubeantes”. Estas otras formas de pensar\, de sentir están ocurriendo en diferentes partes del globo\, en este momento histórico crítico\, el de la transición a otros climas\, otros mares\, otros ríos\, otros vientos y selvas\, otras ciudades\, otros cuerpos\, otras enfermedades. Se trata de habitar el PachaKuti\, pues de la catástrofe puede renacer una nueva forma de ver-pensar-sentir.
